Little Tragedies

Where have the boys disappeared whose desires were too big for the Brazilian town of Catalão? Some have gone elsewhere, others are no longer alive. But in this staged documentary, their memories come to life together with the town said to be a great place to live. Well, unless you are queer. Director Daniel Nolasco, whose successful Dry Wind from 2020 was presented at Mezipatra, blends reality with fantasy and gives voice to his own queer generation through humour and erotic imagery. He shows that you don’t need to cross national borders to become an immigrant in your own life. Some places are simply too small for our desires. This chronicle of the director’s hometown is more than a sentimental return to first jobs and first loves. It is a thrilling exploration of desire and the breaking of taboos – just like oiling up a random muscular body or giving a blow job in a decrepit shack. You probably shouldn’t, but the desire is stronger.
