Who Wants to Kill Jessie?

Associate Professor Beránek is introduced to sexy comic book heroine Jessie at first through a randomly picked-up in comic book, then in dreams, and one morning, he unexpectedly wakes up next to her in bed. Beránek and Czechoslovakia of the sixties, bordering somewhere between socialist realism and neo-realism, finally got a taste of the comic book aesthetic thanks to the “Who Wants to Kill Jessie?” after a long time. This wide-angle film captured the hearts of comic book lovers (including artist Kaja Saudek), fans of Olga Schober (one of our few real movie stars of the time and one of the most beautiful actresses ever), but also the socialist concept of Superman and naive (but still significant) comic poetry of Milos Macourek along with a solid film work of Vaclav Vorlicek.
