Solo

Simon has a successful career and a family that loves him. And he also has a prime spot in a club where he performs as a drag queen. When newcomer Olivier joins the queer family one day, Simon is instantly drawn to him. What starts as a flirtation quickly turns into a passionate romance, which brings to life an artistic partnership. Everything seems to be basking in the warm glow of the spotlights, but their relationship is far from a fairy tale. Moreover, Simon’s estranged mother – an opera diva who left him 15 years ago – returns to Montreal. And Simon is eager to impress her… In her latest drama, Sophie Dupuis brings together the crème de la crème of contemporary queer cinema: Théodore Pellerin (Genesis, Boy Erased) and Félix Maritaud (Sauvage, 120 BPM). But the film is above all a compellingly complex look at the yearning for love and attention – whether it comes from a partner, family, or an audience.

Quebec filmmaker Sophie Dupuis needed just one film to establish herself – her debut Family First (2018), which was selected to represent Canada at the Oscars. While it didn’t make the final nominations, the film found success at the Canadian Screen Awards. The same recognition followed her latest film, Solo (2023), marking her third collaboration with Théodore Pellerin. This drag club drama will introduce Dupuis to Mezipatra audiences for the very first time.
