Out of the Blue
Rowdy opposite of James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, Hopper was an outcast and idol of New Hollywood throughout his life. The opponents of the establishment and young filmmakers and audiences loved him. In this low-budget picture from Canada in the late 1970s and early 80s, he was supposed to have played only one of the main roles but eventually rewrote the script and directed the film. This family drama about the ups and downs of the adolescence of a young girl became a character study and also an expression of a peculiar vision of the world of Dennis Hopper, the carefree rebel.
