OBEX
When his beloved dog Sandy mysteriously disappears, the solitary Conor Marsh is drawn into a surreal rescue mission inside a mysterious computer game. A gently artful metaphor for loneliness, OBEX captivates not only through its likeable protagonist.
Conor Marsh is an unassuming man living alone with his canine companion Sandy. When a cryptic computer game called OBEX comes into his possession, Sandy suddenly vanishes. The boundary between virtual reality and the real world begins to blur, and Conor is forced to venture into the fantastical realm of OBEX in search of her. Along the way, he encounters not only bizarre characters but also his own inner demons: will he discover why the thought of intimacy terrifies him so much? Albert Birney’s surreal black-and-white film is a gentle and artful metaphor for loneliness, anxiety, and isolation, enchanting viewers with both its sympathetic protagonist and its stylised evocation of retro 1980s aesthetics.
