Nelly & Nadine
The opera singer Nelly and the charming intellectual Nadine met under devastating circumstances - in a concentration camp in 1944. Gradually, they developed a deep bond, and a romance of epic proportions began in a place otherwise dominated by despair. Today, the mysterious love story is uncovered by Nelly's granddaughter, who finds a chest in the attic with many photos, diaries and old videos. She begins to wonder who the mysterious woman in so many photographs is. Why didn't her grandmother talk about her when they spent over half their lives together? And what other secrets about her past did she hide? From extraordinary archival material, renowned Swedish director Magnus Gertten has managed to piece together an unusually vivid and subtle film about an unexpected relationship that transcended even the most horrific events in history. It rightly deserved to premiere at one of the most important film festivals, the Berlinale, where it won the queer Teddy Award.
