High Hopes

This deep black satire from Thatcher's England takes aim at the barriers between the classes. In the eighties, the paths of three different London couples cross in a country swept by social discontent. The young working class couple are inclined to socialism due to their financial difficulties. The second couple are trying to climb ever higher up the social ladder and attain dreamed-of privileges. The third are seeking an alternative lifestyle despite the ubiquitous conservatism. All are battling to survive in a world of dramatic political changes and omnipresent confusion. Is there any hope when the lightness of being is ever receding and the inflated hopes of their dreams are burst in the struggle?
