Ghana: Short Films

A series of short documentaries and feature films by emerging Ghanaian filmmakers who explore social and environmental issues in contemporary Ghanaian society.

The film After the Last Wear reflects on the impact of fast fashion on the environment, while Before the Sun Rises captures women's work, which often remains invisible. The film The Bride Price depicts a tense traditional ceremony in which older family members decide the future of a young girl, while The Weaver’s Thread focuses on a disabled woman who defies gender norms by devoting herself to weaving, a craft dominated by men. The last film, Silent Strokes, follows a painter with hearing impairment whose artistic mission conflicts with her father's wishes. The film series is concluded with the musical film Sundiata, which returns to the founding figure of the Mali Empire in the 13th century. Together, these films form a mosaic of contemporary Ghana, emphasizing human dignity, resilience, and resistance to prejudices.
