Forgotten Land
The adaptation of Ivan Olbracht's story scripted by Karel Nový and directed by Vladislav Vančura, a 1934 black-and-white film Márijka the Unfaithful, is definitely worth your attention as it is one of the more distinctive attempts at Czech ethnographic film. It takes place in the exotic environment of Carpatian Ruthenia and despite its title "Márijka the Unfaithful" it would be wrong to claim that this earthy girl is the main hero in a drama full of men, the woods and the elements of nature.
