I, Olga Hepnarova

The film I, Olga Hepnarová is inspired by a real event which took place in July 1973 in Prague. Twenty year old Olga, before she got into the truck, wrote and sent a letter in which she passed a death sentence upon this society. Coincidentally, she became the last executed woman in Czechoslovakia. This character - played by the actress Michalina Olszanska - fully captured the attention without Olszanska having to be a jolly good girl. She’s attractive, but disconcerting, visibly stretched between internal grievance and aggression. This impression deepens as the character closes up into existential solitude destroyed by the sense of her own “sexual handicap”.
